Product Photography has always been the center of interest of many “Professional” Photographers. Unlike other niche as Wildlife Photography, Nature Photography, etc., the Product photography has project and business point of view.

In the present days of Covid Pandemic, most of Photographers are unable to visit any Wildlife Sanctuary or an travel destination. So, our most of the Photo Artists think that their work is stuck and are waiting for the old times to be back. But in this Pandemic, there is also a community of Photographers, who are active and are earning more than ever. This community is the Product Photographers.

In this Lockdown era, though we can’t step out, but the world is still running and so as the business and economy. Most of the business as Jewelry, clothing, watch brands and many more requires good quality pictures of their Product. So, here comes the Product Photographers.

Who is a Product Photographer?

First of all, Photography has no limit. It is very wrong to bound ourselves into only Wildlife or Fashion photography or any other genre of photography. It is only that we Photographers click every type of Photos, but it is our particular interest, that makes us a Travel Photographer or a Fashion Photographer.

Similarly, is a Product Photographer, who clicks pictures of any kind of particular product. Whether it may be a Watch, Necklace, Rings, Clothes, Toys and so on.

Product Photography might be a regular job, or a freelance work. The Product Photographers get or take up assignments from big Companies or startups, and click their valuable Products.

What Requires to be a Product Photographer?

To be a Product Photographer, mainly requires interest in this field. Also, it requires a little research quality of knowing your prodcut, how ot can be clicked or what important features to click in the product.

It requires no degrees. It requires, interest and experience.

You can easily hire big studios to click your products, or simply you  can make a mini studio in your home and carry on you Product shoot. This article focusses more on Product Photography at home

Tools and Camera Required?

For Product Photography you can use any good basic camera. Even I click my products with beginner Canon 1300D or Rebel T6.

But the most important thing is the Lens. You will also need a Tripod and lens hoods for getting clarity. So, you can easily click and do Product Photography in Home.

Best Lens for Product Photography:

50mm Prime lens is the best. It gives you the required background blur effect, upto F1.0.

You can also use a Zoom lens or a basic 18-55mm depending on your focal length.

Home Setup for Product Photography

If you are thinking that it is costly, but I assure you, by following my tricks, you can easily perform best Product Photography in Home in cheapest rate.

You will need few of the following item for Product Photography in home:

  1. White A4 sheets or White paper roll.
  2. Cello Tapes.
  3. Camera
  4. Minimum light source for dark area or  open window.

So, first you will need to place the white sheets in such a way that, the paper forms a curved pattern without any bend. Fix the papers on the wall with tapes.

Then place the product on the curved area.

And focusing with lights, click the product.

The best source of light that I have used is a Ring Light

Setting for clicking

If you are doing Product Photography in your room, low light, use Shutter speed 1/10, F5.6 or low. ISO 600.

Adjust depending on light. Always click in RAW. As you are doing in Home, so you will need little post processing.

Post Processing

After you click, you can use Light Room. First Adjust the Brightness, Highlight and Shadow. Little increase in exposure will enhance your Product. Then adjust the Saturation, Vibrance and Sharpness depending to your taste.

Also, if any defect in background paper, you can heal it up in Lightroom.
