New Delhi’s 24th of August 2018, was truly an awesome cloudy day. The day which gave me the best opportunity to try my hands on the bought DSLR. Starting from the light exposure to the focus of lens, this was the perfect day to launch a test on my Camera. So, thinking of few the places in New Delhi, suddenly my chord stuck on a place, which had many renowned stories.
The place was ‘Agrasen ki Baoli’. I had already heard many tales of this place, specially from many of my friends who had earlier visited this place and shared few of the dramatic experiences with their the best story telling skills.
So, it was already late afternoon, when I finally made the plan to visit the “much awaited” and “much talked about” Agrasen ki Baoli.
Situated in the heart of New Delhi’s Connaught Place, Agrasen ki Baoli still appears to be quiet away from the busy and bustling Delhi.
When I reached, it was already quater past one and it had started to drizzle. Actually, I must confess, you should choose a cloudy day to visit Agrasen ki Baoli. The haunting dark clouds, truly adds up to the soothing beauty of the 14th Century old Baoli.
Starting from the start, you can very easily reach the Agrasen ki Baoli by nearest metro station Mandi House. Then you can take up an Autorickshaw to drive you to the 1 km away Baoli from the metro station.
The Architecture of Agrasen ki Baoli
Time tracks down the epic history of Agrasen ki Baoli, which is today believed was built by King Agrasen.
The Agrasen ki Baoli is a step well, with dimensions of 60 metres long and 15 metres wide.
It has got an awesome architecture of curved arches, built with beautiful red stones. To reach to the bottom of the Baoli, you have to step down 108 stairs. Viewing to the design, Archeologists believe that Agrasen ki Baoli was built in the Tughlaq period.
Is Agrasen ki Baoli Haunted?
Agrasen ki Baoli is believed to be one of the haunted places in Delhi, but still it is debated.
Atleast, from my visit experience I would say that it is one of the beautiful place, and not haunted.
But yes, some of the things might make you feel that yes it is haunted.
Firstly, due to the silent surrounding area, dampness, and the flying birds suddenly, gives it a haunted look. Even you can also witness few of the bats flying there.
Secondly, to add the haunted story, when you go deep down the Baoli (well), you can almost listen to the echo of your own foot steps. Such an echo in the silent area will also make you to feel that Agrasen ki Baoli is haunted.
